Recorded on the 2nd of June 2003 in the south of Tomsk (open deciduous woodland; at 5625N, 8458E). Background species: Carpodacus erythrinus.

Arrives when the leaves have appeared and the perennial grasses have started to grow in the grasslands. In Tomsk and its outskirts appears in the final third of May.

Bird of open terrain. Breeds in scrubby areas, floodplain meadows with tall grass, in farmland with hedgerows, woodland edge, clearings and open deciduous woodland with scrub. Found also in overgrown bogs. Not attracted to dense forests. Common and region-wide.

Sings from the end of May until mid-July.
